The Bottle
A Unique Fusion of Materials
The Cupitta combines two distinct yet complementary materials: a natural wood exterior and a copper-lined interior. The wood exudes warmth and organic character, while the copper interior draws on centuries of Ayurvedic wellness tradition. Together they make a bottle that is as intentional as it is beautiful.
Because the wood grain is natural, no two Cupittas look exactly alike — each one has its own character.
Ayurvedic Tradition
Rooted in Ancient Practice
The Cupitta is not a temperature-retention bottle. It is a copper vessel rooted in thousands of years of Ayurvedic practice — and the benefit is about time, not temperature.
When plain water rests in a copper vessel for 6 to 8 hours, trace copper ions dissolve into the water. Ayurveda calls this Tamra Jala — a practice used for over three thousand years to support digestion, immunity, and overall wellness. Modern science recognizes it as the oligodynamic effect. It works at room temperature. The copper work is done before you ever take a sip — once those 6 to 8 hours are up, the water is ready and the benefits are fully intact.
The Daily Practice
-
1The FillFill your Cupitta with plain water at room temperature. Most people fill it before bed and wake up to it ready — that's the tradition, and it's a good one. But any 6 to 8 hour window works. The only rule is room temperature water and enough time.
-
2The WaitOver 6 to 8 hours, trace copper ions dissolve into the water — a process Ayurveda calls Tamra Jala, and that modern science recognizes as the oligodynamic effect. No action required. The bottle does its work quietly, the same way it has for three thousand years.
-
3The SipIn traditional Ayurvedic practice, the ideal moment to drink your Tamra Jala is first thing in the morning — before coffee, before food, on an empty stomach. That timing has a name: it supports the activation of Agni, the digestive fire. But the copper work happens in the bottle, not in your stomach. That water is exactly what it is whether you drink it at 6am or noon — the immune support, the skin benefits, the antimicrobial properties are in the water itself, not the timing. If your morning allows for it, great. If not, take your copper water on the go and sip throughout the day.
One fill per day. When the bottle is empty, it's done for the day. Do not leave water in the bottle for more than 16 hours.
This one-fill-per-day approach aligns with traditional Ayurvedic practice and keeps copper intake within safe, appropriate levels. The WHO recommends no more than 2mg of copper per liter of water — following this guideline keeps you well within those limits.
Important
Do not use for hot beverages. Heat accelerates copper release and can result in levels that are unsafe to consume. The Cupitta is for room temperature plain water only.
Wellness
The Benefits of Copper
For thousands of years, Ayurvedic tradition has stored drinking water in copper vessels. Today, modern science is catching up to what practitioners discovered millennia ago. The following reflects both traditional practice and current research — these are not medical claims, and The Cupitta is not a medical device or treatment.
Digestion
Ayurvedic Tradition
Copper has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine to support digestive health — believed to stimulate digestive enzymes, reduce gut inflammation, and ease bloating and indigestion.
Modern Wellness
Copper is an essential trace mineral recognized for its role in metabolic function. Its natural antimicrobial properties are increasingly studied for their contribution to a balanced digestive environment.
Immune Support
Ayurvedic Tradition
Storing water in copper for 6 to 8 hours — Tamra Jala — has been practiced for millennia as a way to build resilience, strengthen the immune system, and promote overall vitality.
Modern Wellness
The EPA has registered copper alloys as the only solid surface material with inherent, continuous antimicrobial properties — the first and only metal to earn that designation. The oligodynamic effect — trace copper ions dissolving into water over 6–8 hours — is the science behind what Ayurvedic practitioners discovered thousands of years ago.

Ayurvedic Tradition
Copper-charged water has long been associated in Ayurvedic practice with supporting collagen production — the protein responsible for skin elasticity, firmness, and a healthy, youthful appearance.
Modern Wellness
Copper peptides are a recognized ingredient in modern skincare for their role in collagen synthesis and skin renewal. The connection between copper and skin health has moved from ancient tradition into mainstream dermatology.
Critical
Plain Water Only
For Plain Water Only
Do not use The Cupitta for juice, coffee, tea, lemon water, protein shakes, or any flavored or acidic beverage. Acidic liquids react with copper and can be harmful. This bottle is designed exclusively for plain drinking water.

Maintenance
Care Instructions
The Cupitta requires a simple but specific routine to keep both the copper interior and wooden exterior in top condition.
Daily Care
Rinse the interior with plain water after each use. Let it air dry completely — upside down — so water does not pool inside.
Weekly Cleaning
Clean the copper interior using a natural acid solution — lemon juice mixed with salt and a little water, or tamarind paste mixed with a little water, are the traditional methods. Pour the solution directly into the bottle, then swirl and shake so it coats the entire interior. Let it sit for a few minutes, swirl again, and rinse thoroughly with plain water until no trace of the cleaning agent remains. For routine weekly cleaning, no brush is needed.
For heavier buildup, a soft-bristled bottle brush (long and narrow) can help — but use soft bristles only. Never use anything abrasive, as it will scratch the copper.
Note: Lemon juice is used here as a cleaning agent only and must be fully rinsed out before the bottle is used for drinking water.
What to Avoid
- Do not use soap or harsh detergents — they strip the copper's natural properties and can leave residue
- Do not put in the dishwasher
- Do not store any beverage other than plain water in the bottle
- Do not use for hot beverages
Wooden Exterior
The wooden outer shell is treated to resist moisture, but keep it dry when not in use to preserve the natural finish. Wipe the outside with a dry cloth as needed.
With this simple routine, your Cupitta will remain beautiful and functional for years.
Our Commitment
Sustainability
The Cupitta is a meaningful alternative to single-use plastic bottles. Both copper and wood are natural materials that, when cared for properly, can last for years — reducing the need for replacement and keeping waste out of landfills. Copper is fully recyclable at end of life.
We are committed to responsible sourcing and are actively evaluating our wood supply chain to ensure it meets sustainable forestry standards. We will share more details as that work develops.
